The School for Field Studies (SFS) Fall Semester Program Begins

A group of 24 undergraduate students from 17 different universities/colleges from the United States of America (USA) arrived in Bhutan today (27 August 2018) to attend a 3 month Fall Semester Program on Himalayan Environment and Society in Transition. The Ugyen Wangchuck Institute for Conservation and Environmental Research (UWICER), the Bhutan Ecological Society (BES), and the SFS head office based at Massachusetts, USA jointly host this interdisciplinary field-based course in Bhutan. During the program, the students will undertake three main courses on i) Political and Socioeconomic Dimensions of Environment; ii) Mountain Ecology; and iii) Land Use, Natural Resources, and Conservation. An Institutional visit by the staff of AmanKora- Bumthang Lodge

The staff led by the Lodge manager of AmanKora, Bumthang Lodge has made a goodwill institutional visit to the Institute on 17th August 2018. The Education and Capacity Building Services of the institute made a presentation on the overview of the institute’s mandates and the activities to the visiting staff at the Daphne hall. After the presentation, the staff was taken on a campus tour of the institute.  From such visit, the institute hopes to outreach to their clients who will be interested to collaborate in the fields of environmental research and conservation, and also invite our expatriates to deliver talks on conservation and environment to the enthusiastic guests.  [Read More...]

Drug abuse/Addiction Sensitization

A team from Chithuen Phendey Association visited the Institute today and organized sensitization workshop on substance abuse and addiction. The team delved into the very root causes of drug addiction substantiating their reasons through scientific and societal perspectives and drawing examples from real life experiences. They highlighted how an adverse childhood experience (ACE) could lead to a person with poorly developed brain lacking in social interaction and vulnerable to drug addiction. [Read More...]
