United States Agency for International Development Partnerships for Enhanced Engagement in Research (US-AID PEER): Research Fellowship Award

The Ugyen Wangchuck Institute for Conservation and Environment Research in collaboration of Central Washington University, USA is pleased to announce the availability of research grants through support from US-AID PEERs and NAS.

Purpose of the Grant

The purpose of the grant is to build research capacity of Bhutanese individuals while generating scientific information in the process. The grant will be applied to support original research in the field of primate conservation that will result in a research paper, a dissertation, or an academic publication.

Graduate/Undergraduate students in academic institutions in Bhutan are eligible to apply. The funded applicant will have a mentor who will guide him/her through the research project, including all phases of research design, data collection and analysis, and write up for publication and/or presentation. Depending up on the project, the funded applicant may work in virtual partnership with a Primate Behavior MS student based at Central Washington University.

Grant amount

The amount of the grant varies according to the particular proposal and research costs but should not exceed Nu.70, 000 per proposal. Half of the money will be paid upon approval of the proposal, while the rest will be provided upon completion of the research project. The funds are intended to be used to support research carried out after the grant is approved.

Grant period

The grant shall be executed and reported within 6-month period (Fiscal Year: July - June).

Eligibility

  • Be a Bhutanese citizen currently studying BSc/MSc in forestry/environmental/Geographical Information Science
  • Should have a strong academic background in the field of conservation and undertake original research on primate ecology and human-primate interaction.
  • Agree that the research study will be completed before end of April 2023 and eventually result in a professional presentation and/or published article in a national, regional, or international peer-reviewed journal.

  • Application opening: 1 July, 2022
  • Application Closing: 31 July, 2022 [17:00 hrs BST]

  • Selection Result: Selected pre-proposal will be asked to submit the full proposal within 30 August, 2022.
