The 2nd phase of Environment Science Curriculum Orientation Workshop is underway at Samdrupjongkhar. Sixty seven ES teachers are attending the week long orientation workshop. The workshop will orient ES teachers from higher and middle secondary schools on content, delivery methods and tools for ES subject.

HEROES (Himalayan Environmental Rhythm Observation and Evaluation System) has been mainstreamed in ES curriculum. Since 2015, ES is offered as optional subject in class IX, X, XI and XII . Among others, the ES curriculum includes phenology as one of the topic for ES subject. Phenology- as study of seasonal life cycle event of plants and animals - will be used by students as a tool to study the impact of climate change on plant and animal life cycles within the vicinity of their school's campus. Through this engagement, students are expected to understand and relate abstract concept of climate change to their daily learning experiences.

During the course of this workshop, teachers will be trained on scientific skills, enquiry based learning, designing phenology trail and design thinking. The lesson will be delivered through series of hands on exercises, field trip and theoretical session.

The workshop is organized as part of collaborative effort between Royal Education Council, Department of School Education and UWICER. UWICER provides technical backstopping and funding to implement phenology in schools offering ES. Of the sixty seven participants, nine participants are supported by UWICER with the funding support from Karuna Foundation and Bhutan Foundation.

The week long program started on 19th January, 2018 and will end on 25th January, 2018.
